Caring for your orchid even after it has shed its beautiful bloom is absolutely essential for the health of the plant. And, of course, the health of the plant will determine whether or not it will produce a future bloom, whether or not the future bloom will be equal to the initial bloom and whether or not your plant will continue to thrive.

You cannot be expected to be at home all the time to take care of your orchids but they still need to be attended to. So, what’s to be done? If you plan to be away mere a few days, just group all your orchid plants in a location that gets plenty of good lighting but no direct sunshine and set up a number of humidity trays. If your absence is longer, you might consider having someone do the watering for your or acquire self-watering devices.

All species of orchids are most happy in a rather humid environment. You can provide your orchids with the humidity they love by setting their pots in humidity trays or by spraying their leaves and blooms with a fine mist.
